A: Yes, a number of states have certification programs. Georgia’s
program is administered by the Georgia Commission on Interpreters.
Q: What is required to become a Certified
Court Interpreter in Georgia?
A: Briefly: (Registered license is available for languages where no Oral Certification exam exists)
Certified License
- Complete the Court Interpreter Orientation Workshop.
- Take and pass the written test. This test is in English.
- Take and pass the Oral Certification Exam.
- Successfully complete a criminal history background investigation.

Q: If I become a Certified
Court Interpreter in Georgia, will my status be recognized in other
states?
A: Your status will be recognized in the states that belong to
the Consortium for State Court Interpreter Certification (http://www.ncsconline.org/D_Research/CourtInterp.html).
Recognition of your status in states not belonging to the Consortium
will depend on the state.

A: The Orientation Workshop will help prepare you for this test
and information on study materials will be provided.
Q: Can you recommend any courses to help
prepare for the Oral Certification Exam?
A: Language Services Plus offers several Skill Building classes each year to help interpreters prepare for the Spanish Oral Certification Exam.
The focus of each class is on techniques used for the three modes of interpretation and special attention is paid to legal vocabulary. Participants practice mock proceedings in an actual courtroom setting with judges and attorneys. Contact us for more information.
