Court Interpretation

LSP provides Certified and Registered interpreters for the courts, depositions, attorney/client conferences, and other legal proceedings and translation of legal documents. Court interpretation requires special knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and interpretation modes.

In addition, we have wireless communication equipment to provide unobtrusive interpretation to the target audience.

Requirements for becoming a Certified Court Interpreter in Georgia include attending a two-day Orientation Training Session conducted by the Georgia Commission on Interpreters. http://www.georgiacourts.org/agencies/interpreters/cms

The Commission on Interpreters certifies, licenses and governs the work and conduct of language interpreters in the courts in order to assure that persons of limited English proficiency be provided due process, equal access and meaningful participation in all court proceedings and court support services; that the constitutional rights of criminal defendants to assistance of language interpreters be safeguarded; and, that the efficiency, quality and uniformity of court proceedings as assisted by interpreters be encouraged and preserved.

Courts in many states have requirements for court interpreters. The Georgia Supreme Court states, “Courts should make a diligent effort to appoint a Certified Interpreter.” The Georgia Commission on Interpreters has established procedures and requirements for interpreter qualification and conduct.

Medical

Medical interpretation, like legal, has its own unique vocabulary. Extensive training and practice are essential to become a medical interpreter. Qualified medical interpreters (Bridging the Gap, developed by Cross Cultural Health Care Program, Seattle , WA ) are available to provide accurate communication health care providers and non-English speaking clients.

Skill Building Classes

Language Services Plus offers Skill Building training each year to help interpreters prepare for the Spanish Oral Certification Exam. The focus of each class is on techniques used for the three modes of interpretation and special attention is paid to legal vocabulary.
